This Instructor/Training Developer conducts training on all simulators associated with these courses, providing initial, concurrent and remedial training on various cargo and maritime tasks, and employing the Systems Approach to Training to make updates to lesson plans and Programs of Instruction. The Instructor provides hands-on training utilizing the simulators, provides demonstrations in laboratories and on watercraft, and provides classroom instruction.
Duties and Responsibilities
This Instructor must be able to provide technical instruction and training development support in all 880A1/2 Marine Deck Officer IMT, PME and functional training courses. On a daily basis this Instructor will teach, research, recommend changes, and update course materials in accordance with prescribed course framework.The courses or blocks of instruction cover fundamentals and basic skills of Army watercraft operation incorporating all aspects, to include Deck Seamanship, Vessel Watch Standing, Vessel Piloting, Vessel Electronic Navigation, Celestial Navigation, Shipboard Damage Control, Shipboard Firefighting, Water Survival, Watercraft Safety, Ship handling, Tugboat Operation, and Maritime Simulation utilization. All instruction follows a well- standardized method/approach for all courses in the field of Army vessel and maritime operations.The individual shall have had actual shipboard experience in the following: Deck Seamanship, Vessel Watch Standing, Vessel Piloting, Vessel Electronic Navigation, Celestial Navigation, Shipboard Damage Control, Shipboard Firefighting, Water Survival, Watercraft Safety, Ship handling and Tugboat Operation.Other tasks include hands-on instruction on various tasks (firefighting, damage control, ship handling), answering questions and follow-up on questions requiring some additional research; up-date lesson plans; review and incorporate lessons learned from CALL; review of POIs, field manuals, and technical manuals to support classroom instruction, prior to class beginning. Additionally as a Training Developer, this person will develop and/or modify lesson plans for assigned area of instruction or for groups of other instructors.
Skills and Qualifications Required
This position requires an individual to possess a minimum of ten (10) years of prior military service as a Warrant Officer who has a demonstrated experience level commensurate with a Warrant Officer assignment onboard an Army watercraft.The individual must possess actual shipboard experience in the following: Deck Seamanship, Vessel Watch Standing, Vessel Piloting, Vessel Electronic Navigation, Celestial Navigation, Shipboard Damage Control, Shipboard Firefighting, Water Survival, Watercraft Safety, Ship handling and Tugboat Operation.Possess an understanding and experience in the Systems Approach to Training and ability to perform training development. Minimum education level is a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent Army military education/experience in instructing and writing. Instructor must be able to physically conduct simulator operator / technical instructor/writer duties and in the stated subject area when required in a classroom, simulator, live training aid, and/or ship environment.Standing for extended periods of time on hard decks or floors exposed to heat and cold conditions is common when conducting live training events. Maritime candidates must have ability to be vetted as meeting the qualifications as a vessel watch officer through the National Maritime Center (NMC) for acceptance as a U.S. Coast Guard approved instructor.Excellent problem solving skills with ability to analyze situations identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions. Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel).Bachelor’s degree or relevant knowledge acquired through experience/training that is equivalent to education/training, USCG license, and Maritime/Cargo Handling technology degree program.
