Function & Responsibility Prototype machinist that is self-motivated and able to accomplish a high level of work without supervision to produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating 3-5 axis CNC mills, and horizontal boring mill. You will work directly with welders on special projects including large vacuum weldments and chambers. Expected to handle all aspects of machining from start to finish, including deburring and detail work. Must maintain quality and safety standards. Experience with SolidCAM and Okuma mills desirable but not required. Primary Responsibilities Include: · Person will be responsible for programming, setting up, and machining short run prototype parts assigned to them by shop supervisor · Complete machine setups on vertical mill centers. Make required adjustments to equipment to maintain compliance with quality standards. · Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. · Produce NC programs from CAM software using SolidCAM software Responsible for selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates according to machine capabilities and work holding · Verifies conformance of finished work piece to called specifications within the required tolerances sometimes as close as +/-.0005 Carry out daily/weekly preventative maintenance Practice good housekeeping (5S) Communicate all defects and scrap Notify supervisor of any problems in manufacturing product or safety issues · Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Preference given to Candidates with: Strong knowledge of CAM software. Solid understanding of G-Code/M-Code Experienced in machine setup and inventive workholding solutions Excellent shop math skills - geometry and trig Superior knowledge of GD&T’s and ability to interpret feature control blocks (ASME Y14) High vacuum (UHV) experience (knowledge of high vacuum surface finish requirements); Familiarity with pre/post-weld machining beneficial but can be picked up on the job Superior English language skills –both spoken and written; Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively Self-motivated with strong attention to detail Ability to lift at least 60lbs, bend, stoop, reach, and stand for an extended period Use of PPE (personal protective equipment) and safe lifting techniques A proclivity for life-long learning; A desire to join and contribute to a world class, global organization. Minimum Qualifications · High school diploma or equivalent; AA/AS degree in engineering/manufacturing preferred. · 7+ years shop experience required · Knowledge of SolidCAM software preferred, but can be learned on the job Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
